IF 2020 HAVE TAUGHT US ONE THING, IT IS THE NEED TO QUICKLY ADAPT TO CHANGE AND REINVENT OURSELVES. RESILIENCE HAS BEEN ONE OF THE CANDIDATE WORDS TO BE THE WORD OF THE YEAR. TO CONTINUE GROWING AND IMPROVING THIS 2021 WE HAVE TO APPLY THIS RESILIENCE COMBINED WITH OUT OF THE BOX STRATEGIES. LEARNING FROM THE PAST WE WILL GROW AND BE BETTER IN THE FUTURE, AN INICERT FUTURE BUT SLIGHTLY PROFILED ALREADY.

The long-awaited 2021 has finally arrived. A part of us longed that with the sound of the 12 chimes, we could erase everything that happened in 2020 with a stroke of the pen and wake up from a dream, a bad dream, like in science fiction movies, or the most made in Spain final of the Los Serrano series . I wish it had been like that, I have to confess that when I went out on January 1, I hoped not to come across people with a mask walking around, or a bottle of hydroalcoholic gel waiting for me at the door of any establishment. But it has not been that way. Here we continue, in the same surreal reality that we have been living since March 2020. So, at this point, why don’t we explore the good things that we have learned from this past year, that we will never forget, and what do we use to improve 2021?

Fear, hope, uncertainty, expectation…. These are some of the feelings that assail us as people facing this new year, and as a company, we cannot help feeling the same. We rely on metrics, data, analysis and forecasts, but the truth is that no one can predict the future … yet. But we can use all the information and experience we have from the past to grow and improve our future. We are going to think Out of the box , to risk taking on new challenges, to propose different strategies, to take a big leap with our eyes open and lose our fear.

Trends in B2B Marketing for 2021

As we have already commented on other occasions, B2C marketing techniques are increasingly applicable in B2B. Brands and their values are increasingly important, they are the vehicle through which to create confidence to make any decision. In addition, the pandemic has created for us the need to connect in a more humane way, to generate stronger interpersonal relationships, based on authenticity and lasting over time.

We can say that the main trends in B2B marketing for 2021 inherited from 2020 are:

1.- SEO positioning

SEO generates traffic. 57% of B2B marketers say SEO generates more leads than any other marketing initiative. Global b2b marketplaces are using SEO to generate leads. SEO is not a new tactic, but it is becoming more and more refined. There are many aspects to take into account to have a good positioning, and offer users relevant and quality content. Being a set of free techniques, anyone can carry them out, but it is not a simple strategy, since it requires a lot of time and knowledge. Some of the aspects to take into account for a good organic positioning are:

 1. Keyword study. It is an essential aspect to which you have to dedicate some time. Know how your users search for you, what is relevant to them and how you want to be found. There are several free tools that can help you in this task, such as Google Keyword Planner or SemRush.
 2. Image optimization. Search engines also crawl images for rankings. Adding title and alternative text to the images with the necessary keywords will make the search engine, especially Google, better understand and add to your positioning.
 3. Title, URL and meta description. These 3 elements are the ones that the user first sees when performing a search, therefore, we must try to position the keywords that interest us in these elements. Choose a simple and easy to remember URL with a creative description that puts our company in the top of mind of users.
 4. Internal links. When designing our website, we must take into account that internal links will help us improve the usability and navigability of our page. A good structure of internal links will help to achieve a better positioning in SEO, let’s not forget to check the links to check that they are not broken or do not work, since Google penalizes it.
 5. Be responsive. Our page has to adapt to any device, since the majority of users increasingly use the smartphone. We must also take into account the loading speed of the web, if the loading time is slow, we increase the chances of abandoning the page and we lose leads .

2.- E-Mailing

If SEO generates traffic, email generates sales. 77% of B2B companies use an email newsletter as part of their content marketing strategy and 79% of B2B marketers consider email to be the most successful channel for content distribution. Active email accounts exceeded 5.6 billion in 2019; In 2020, this has continued to increase, and will do so for the foreseeable future. Millennials prefer business communications to come through email, and they will be the B2B buyers we are trying to reach in the not too distant future.

3.- Advanced segmentation

We have been talking for a long time about the need to offer and personalize communications with our different audiences. The more segmented we have our audience, the more we can personalize our messages according to the individual interests of each one. Digital marketing allows us to be able to make these segmentations and present the right message to the right person at the right time.

We talk about segmentation in everything: in e-mailing campaigns, social networks, advertising, personalized landing pages, product recommendations, online sales …

4.- Social networks to generate engagement and loyalty.

In these moments of physical distancing, our window to the world is social media. Through it we connect with other people, we look for products and brands with the same interests as us.

Developing a good content strategy in social networks, quality and based on storytelling will help us to reinforce our brand values and connect in a lasting way with our audience.

5.- Consolidation of voice searches

The way people search the Internet is changing significantly in recent years, with more and more voice search being used on tablets, smartphones and voice assistants. Written search is still the main way, but we should not rule out SEO updating our website so that it appears in voice searches.

And it is that, for the written search you compete to appear in the first positions, but in the voice search, users do not see the entire page of results and then click on the option that interests them the most. In voice search, the user receives only the number one result, the one that Alexa, Siri, Ok Google or Cortana finds first.

To adapt or develop the SEO of your website to voice search, you have to take into account several factors. On the one hand the intonation and semantics. Technology and Artificial Intelligence will be able to identify the user’s mood. The number of words that we use for a voice search increases, when asking complete questions, therefore, long-tail keywords become important. On the other hand, geolocation and Google My Business files are becoming increasingly important, as users search for a product or service in a certain place.

SEO, e-mail marketing, segmentation or n and strategies contained in social networks are inherited B2B marketing trends in 2020; the Account Based Marketing is the bet m to s innovative and safe to explore in 2021.

Account Based Marketing as the strategy to follow in 2021

But without a doubt, if something is going to set the trend in B2B marketing for companies for 2021, it is Account Based Marketing. Account-based marketing is a strategic marketing technique that treats a single account as if it were a single marketplace, which involves identifying and targeting the specific accounts you want to sell to. According to Cepyme news, 60% of companies using account-based marketing (ABM) saw a revenue increase of at least 10% in 12 months, while 1 in 5 companies experienced a 30% revenue increase or more.

According to the definition of  Sum | The Sales Intelligence Company, the leading B2B Marketing and Sales consultancy in Spain and LATAM, “ABM is the structured execution of our B2B marketing and sales actions through messages and personalized, appropriate and relevant content, for those ideal target accounts, to which that we can help solve their business needs with our value proposition ”.

Why does the ABM work? In the very definition of SUM we find the key to its success: because it reaches a planned audience, identifying accounts with large clients, without wasting time with misaligned prospects; because it allows you to personalize your message and because it incorporates multiple points of contact, engaging the selected target accounts with consistent marketing that generates conversions.

What are the benefits of Account Based Marketing for your company?

 1. The Marketing and Sales Department works in an aligned way. With the ABM, the strategy between marketing and sales is worked together in a more personalized way, so that the effort of the marketing department to get leads will generate more conversions translated into sales, eliminating lower quality leads .
 2. Improves the probability of closing sales on quality leads . Quality matters, not quantity. The success of a campaign is not measured by the number of leads generated, since in many cases they are clicks that we have received for different secondary reasons, not for a direct interest in the purchase. With ABM we get qualified leads , with whom we will build long-term relationships.
 3. Customers feel better served by offering them a personalized experience. Only highly qualified information is sent to the client and of interest. In addition, since the marketing and sales strategy is aligned, there are no inconsistencies in the messages.
 4. The efficiency of your actions is increased. The ABM is proactive, we are going to look for the target accounts that we know can be clients, we do not wait for them to reach us as in Inbound Marketing. We know what the people who make decisions in companies are like and what they want, that is why our efforts are focused on them, with personalized messages, where we do not spend resources and time on accounts that are not our objective.

So, we welcome you to 2021, a year from which a lot is expected and a lot will be demanded of you. We are not going to leave you alone, our responsibility is to live up to it, to give everything to go one step further, proposing new strategies, new challenges and new out of your box experiences.

The world is changing: in the age of the Internet of Things, consumers use Siri, Google Home or Alexa to buy products and Amazon Go allows them to get them without reaching for their wallets in a physical store.

The customer has always different touch points with companies and is faster and more demanding in his purchasing behavior. Sales people today cannot fail to adapt to these trends that increase demand in companies that introduce certain technologies into their products or services: they must be more productive and efficient in managing the relationships they have with customers.

Contrary to popular belief, artificial intelligence can help them keep up with the times and always be competitive, but we are confident that it will not replace them.

How useful was it to compare with the practices of your colleagues, entrepreneurs and commercials you met at trade fairs or during your business trips?

Even today, you never stop learning from others and from the situations that arise little by little that you go forward in your career to improve, be ready to improvise in case of special needs, but above all faster than your competitors in reaching the goals month by month.

The value of the training you have received since setting foot in the company or starting as a freelancer is invaluable. Like everyone else, we too are noticing that the rules of the game have changed: customers today contact you on WhatsApp, through Messenger or even send you emails at one in the morning, perhaps on Saturday night.

The customer journey , in turn, is changing in the touch points with the company thanks to the digital world, which is having an increasingly strong impact.

For your part, you may have found it difficult to keep up with the hundreds of emails that come to you every week and have a clear picture of all the relationships you are having with your customers. If you’re not getting your usual performance lately or the company can’t keep up with the competition, it’s not your fault – the world is changing (and you should do it accordingly).

The more you want to increase your sales, the more there is a need to generate new contacts that interface with you and therefore increase the effort for the tasks you perform daily to maintain your productivity, or even be faster than you already are.

Imagine that your agenda is already full and you don’t have time to dedicate yourself to that customer that the marketing has just passed on to you: refusing or postponing the chat with him too much would risk the loss.

Your new colleague: artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence today is a very hot trend: it seems that everyone has software or technological services that help them achieve their goals more efficiently.

But you manage a sales team and you have results to achieve this month and next: you don’t have time to dedicate yourself to something new, your agenda is overflowing with appointments and it’s hard to change your way after thirty years of experience.

For the sales manager, things that are fashionable in a certain period are useless, consequently even artificial intelligence can be considered as such, unless it can really help to be more efficient in achieving one’s goals.

Artificial intelligence promises to become that colleague that makes you learn, sell and earn more.

Experience shows that the more you know your customers, the better you are able to customize your offer for them and the more likely you are to close deals.

The key is to know your customers in depth and it shouldn’t be a complicated process.

Today, thanks to inbound sales it is possible to get to know the people potentially interested in your company (and target) even before coming into direct contact with it and the more time passes, the more similar tools, based on artificial intelligence, will impact on the methods of acquiring data from customers (and even pay them to get them because of blockchain and new marketing tools ) .

Now, in fact, we are talking about intimate computing: the ability of machines to know our purchasing habits, travel habits, interests, etc.

Think of Amazon Echo which allows you, as a consumer, to ask specific questions and place product orders in minutes (while providing data to companies), but what would its potential be if it were connected to your sales activities?

Imagine walking into the office and asking “Hey Siri, should I call this company today?”, Or “Show me my prospects, which of them should I email and when?”

Your assistant, now, is already something artificial: computer, smartphone, CRM. Soon it may be something you will talk to get strategic information for your work.

Artificial intelligence means less administrative and back-office work

A commercial can only be considered productive when he spends his time selling. Nobody wants to enter emails in the CRM or write down all the communication history of customers instead of staying on the phone or being at high-value meetings. This is exactly why AI comes into play: it automates activity logging, identifies high-priority emails, and creates new leads for you.

Through technology, the working hours spent carrying out administrative tasks are reduced because they are automated.

By using the artificial intelligence of modern-day CRMs , it is possible to eliminate many of the tasks that make you do monotonous and boring tasks that you shouldn’t be doing. The effects are far-reaching and include lower cognitive load, greater job satisfaction, and stronger relationships and relationships (including with the customer) within the sales organization.

Artificial intelligence applied to CRMs makes the sales process successful

Artificial intelligence is increasingly entering the Middle of the Funnel (MOFU) of the sales process.

There are lead management applications that help sales reps support follow-ups until the last stages of inbound sales. It is not new, however, if we think of email marketing on several levels.

Automation now extends to the B2B sales process, where automated cold calls can arrange face-to-face meetings, shortening the sales cycle. Sniffing out a good opportunity is certainly something commercials can learn over time, but why wait when AI can do it for you?

AI can not only rank opportunities (depending on whether they are doing well or badly), but also predict what solutions and discounts to offer customers based on previous successes.

According to Internal Results , 40% of marketers believe their sales teams are not equipped with the right information to interact with potential customers, and artificial intelligence would allow them to do so more efficiently.

The relationship between the marketing and sales departments improves

Historically, there has been tension between marketing and sales: Marketers tend to resent salespeople for not passing high-quality leads to them. At the same time, sellers tend to complain about marketing for low conversion rates.

The so-called marketing is missing

AI has the potential to eliminate this tension by helping marketers increase the quantity and quality of leads and automatically implement marketing .

A Harvard Business Review study found that companies using artificial intelligence had an impact on sales growth which includes: 50% increase in meetings with prospects, lower sales costs since 40-60% and the reduction of the call time by 60-70%.

Artificial intelligence provides sales forecasts and analytics

Today, thanks for example to the CRM dashboards, it is possible to forecast sales and have a clear picture of what to expect from the current month.

Thanks to the data acquired from the previous months, the artificial intelligence automatically provides sales targets month by month, also providing recommendations to consider to improve the whole process.

Analyzing previous won or lost opportunities is essential to improve your sales process and face new ones : artificial intelligence helps you to have one or all information at your fingertips and to analyze it.

Lead prospecting is automated

Prospecting is hard work. Knowing which lead to contact and at what time makes you more productive and leads to more success, but understanding it can be really time-consuming given all the reports to analyze.

Machine learning identifies lead patterns to determine which ones are most likely to be converted into a deal, by examining many factors, including geography, company size, and roles – actions needed to move down the conversion funnel.

This is a dynamic process and artificial intelligence is the assistant that does it for you in real time and in an always updated way.

Artificial intelligence means faster and more effective customer service

In addition to making their purchases through online platforms, customers are starting to buy through bots.

By 2021, shoppers will tend to manage 85% of their relationship with a company, without interacting with a human.

Through machine learning and natural language processing, chatbots are efficient in responding to customers in our place: on suppliers’ websites, they can respond to several customers at the same time, place orders, manage shipping methods and sometimes even payments.

With higher and faster response rates, companies keep shoppers happy and solve problems before they arise.

In short, artificial intelligence tools for marketing are beginning to become essential.

How do you do all this?

The hype for artificial intelligence is very strong and everyone claims to have the technology in their products and sales practices, but don’t get excited about introducing a similar solution by going all-in – the introduction can be incremental. to better adapt to corporate principles.

This can happen through four stages:

Support commercials

Optimize your customer data

Optimize your sellers’ data

Customize your artificial intelligence

1. Support commercials

The first phase is about acquiring better data by providing tools for the sales team.

With calls and emails automatically tracked and recorded (even those that have not been answered) , data becomes pristine and useful for artificial intelligence.

The system could automatically provide us with an answer of this type based on the data and models collected:

“These calls / emails made in these moments to these companies / people / geographic areas have been successful;

these other calls / emails made in these moments to these companies / people / geographic areas have not been successful.

Make more calls than the first type and less than the second. “

To get immediate benefits from the first phase, sellers need tools that make them faster and more effective, such as:

 • Emails that include links to the sales calendar to automatically schedule appointments
 • Templates-based emails to save time (scheduled and automated)
 • Phone calls that appear to the prospect with a local number to increase the response rate, etc.
 • The revenue increase of the first phase can be 10% or more , based solely on the productivity gains observed by the salespeople.

This is immediate ROI , but the real benefit of the first phase is data acquisition, which is only fully realized in the second phase.

2. Optimize your customer data

Once all salespeople are using certain tools and their businesses, successes and failures have been tracked for a few months, we are ready to move on to phase two. With a clear database, CRM now becomes useful for AI thanks to our efforts.

 1. Artificial intelligence basically needs four categories of data:
 2. Descriptive data : who are the prospects and what characteristics do they have?
 3. Behavioral data : what actions were taken? (Calls, emails)
 4. Contextual data : what are the prevailing conditions at a given moment (weather, economy, etc.)
 5. Results-based data : What have been the results of our activities?

a. For a phone call : was it answered?

b. For an email : Has it been opened?

c. For a lead : Did he become a potential customer?

d. For a potential customer : Has the sale been closed?

With these four categories of data, artificial intelligence can work its magic. Machine learning is basically a huge correlation engine. In this case it combines the data from (A), (B) and (C) which result in desired scenarios (D).

In these cases, artificial intelligence tells us that:

 • Phone calls between 13:00 and 15:00 on rainy Sundays to sales departments at companies in the Southeast Middle East market tend to be effective, while …
 • Phone calls between 1pm and 3pm on rainy Tuesdays to HR managers in developing companies on the Tyrrhenian coast tend not to be productive.
 • With all the data in place, artificial intelligence tells us which prospects to carry out certain activities, under what conditions and at what times in a priority manner.

Combined with the first phase, the second pays off 20% more on the company’s turnover.

3. Optimize your sellers’ data

Now that we’re tracking and optimizing all sales activities and prioritizing prospects for maximum performance, we can turn our gaze to the sales team.

Not all salespeople are equally productive: out of a group of 1000 salespeople, 200 might be excellent at building a pipeline, 400 at closing deals, 300 at both, and 100 might not be effective at either.

For a salesperson who wants to build a team that can achieve optimal monthly goals, it is important to understand the performance level of each of them.

Artificial intelligence can instantly assess the historical performance of thousands of commercials , identifying the behaviors and attributes that separate one group from another. This immediately highlights coaching or improvement opportunities for each salesperson’s pain points.

It is important for a company to understand certain parameters so that productivity is always at its maximum potential.

In fact, there are also implications for the hiring and management of salespeople: An empathic personality will still be important, but beyond their relational skills, salespeople will be successful based on their ability to understand and interpret data, work effectively with artificial intelligence and move quickly on opportunities.

The third phase is based on the data from phases one and two, but changes the perspective of the analysis from the buyer to the commercial. Optimizing your sales team can generate a revenue increase of 20% or more.

4. Personalize artificial intelligence by placing it in your context

With good data on buyers, sellers, and how opportunities make their way through the sales cycle, the remaining opportunities to leverage AI to increase revenue fall into two categories:

 • More data / data sources
 • Different questions

The first includes all the data that does not feed into a CRM, but which could be useful for prioritizing prospects and activities.

For example: if after-sales uses or average customer spend data helps to prioritize our targets, it would be useful to consider them to formulate strategies in this regard.

Alternatively, we could ask ourselves quite different questions: rather than “to which consumers to sell and how can we engage them?”, We could ask ourselves “which seller is able to sell a new product better?” The data can also answer these questions to create, for example, new product funnels.

Make AI a holistic technology

From the management group to after-sales support, artificial intelligence is already making its way into many companies and is allowing them to achieve important goals: better quality products and competitive advantage.

If you intend to introduce artificial intelligence into your activities, you need to look at what the company does in its processes from a general point of view before designing and implementing a strategy. When it comes to finding areas where AI can have a major strategic impact, ask yourself the following questions:

 • What are our vulnerabilities?

How could other companies outperform us?

Try this exercise: Get a team together to imagine how your business could potentially fail in five years.

Consider the worst-case scenarios and think what can protect you from getting into the situation this can be the most suitable means to create a solid strategy that might open the door to AI-driven innovation. Next, examine your internal processes and key interdependencies from both a technological and an interdepartmental point of view.

Introduce the most efficient technologies for your business scenario

Creating a technological landscape that everyone can understand in a basic way will be difficult, but it is essential to open innovation opportunities in every branch of the organization.

When evaluating software and platforms, think seriously about how these technologies might align departments (or detach them). For example, allowing multiple departments to operate on a single platform will allow for easier adoption of AI in the future.

Some examples of human functions augmented by artificial intelligence could be:

 • An employee interacting with an internal bot to find information that is important to their job
 • A sales employee who quickly creates personalized content for a potential customer assisted by artificial intelligence
 • A content strategist who understands exactly which topics will bring the most traffic thanks to technology
 • A new employee guided through a customized AI-assisted business practice alignment program

Train your staff properly

Your company’s employees probably think of AI as a technology that will steal their jobs, and your job will be to discredit this theory. Build your entire organization on the foundation of an interconnected infrastructure and offer theoretical innovation opportunities for all departments.

Ask for ideas, solutions, methods to simplify tasks, ways to combat inefficiencies and increase productivity; get constant feedback on activities to collect strategic information for the improvement of individual elements within business processes.

People will feel more engaged and proactive in certain business practices if they have a clear understanding of how the company operates and what it needs.

If everyone had this vision, the entry of innovations will be facilitated (many of which could be based on artificial intelligence). The next step will be to prepare your team to adopt certain practices, but this time they will already be convinced to do so. The ideal would be to create an interconnected corporate culture on certain topics and have employees always ready for new challenges, even outside the departments they work for.

What could the future scenarios be?

The introduction of artificial intelligence is now underway in many sectors, but it will take some time before it is mature and fully “installed” in the various scenarios. Within five years, virtually every salesperson will have a smart assistant who will use intimate computing to deliver rich context at every stage of the sales process, from initial contact to closing.

While today’s assistant salesperson is a device (like a smartphone or laptop), within 10 years it will become something to ask about by speaking, as is the case with the Amazon Echo. Artificial intelligence will be incorporated into a system that will “live” in the office and collect data all day without stopping at night.

Let’s say that in 20 years the commercial interactions will take place through virtual reality (VR): at that point, we will have to think about what it means to involve a customer in virtual reality and create a sales experience within it, adapting the entire process. The same could happen with augmented reality, which already now uses omnichannel solutions to facilitate the purchase of products.

The challenge lies in learning to trust artificial intelligence, implementing it step by step.

Technological progress has always seen two sides: those who declare it useless and those who are very enthusiastic about it. The hope is to position itself exactly in the middle, with one eye on how certain technologies can make the business environment more productive and the other on future developments, already anticipating the competition with an innovation mentality.

Many salespeople are concerned that all of these technological advancements will lead to the loss of their jobs, but that is not the case.

The “human touch” will have to focus more on exception management, tolerate ambiguities, use judgment, shape the strategies and questions that machines will allow to answer and manage an increasingly complex network of relationships with employees, suppliers, partners and customers .

Open the doors to artificial intelligence and next generation CRMs

If you lead a sales team, you cannot introduce artificial intelligence without the necessary equipment and if you are planning to start now, there are already several tools that allow you to do so.

With the four steps described above, not only do you have a return on investment, but strategically speaking you gain a competitive advantage over those who do not exploit artificial intelligence (just yet).

Not all companies are now using artificial intelligence solutions, especially in Italy and yours may be among the few that are anticipating the introduction of technologies that make the sales department more productive.

In the early days of cloud computing, there was a certain level of skepticism: “Is my data really safe? Can I really access my files whenever I want? ”. Now we don’t think twice about using this type of technology that has undoubtedly made us more productive.

The same thing happens today with artificial intelligence: Often, commercials still don’t completely trust a recommendation provided by the technology even though the data supports it.

We could try to call it “augmented intelligence” to alleviate skepticism , since it does nothing but allow you to achieve results faster and does not replace the commercial figure (who in turn must enter data, analyze scenarios and contact customers).

While it is true that 85% of all businesses have the potential to be automated with today’s technology (gathering customer or product information to determine customer needs, processing sales or other transactions, acquiring orders for products by customers), don’t forget considering a number of sales manager’s practices that involve strategic decision making and employee training as well coaching cannot be automated.

The sole purpose of AI is to help sales be more productive and profitable , but it can only happen by opening up to this new type of relationship and information.

As we have already known that Caliber does not have the function to CREATE eBooks, but one of its best functions is to CONVERT formats. We can take advantage of the conversion and create Your eBook from scratch using Google Docs and exporting as .docx.

Before starting I would like to say that an eBook is basically made up of:

 • Cover
 • Book date
 • Index
 • Text
 • Text with
 • League’s format

and we can add all this to our eBook with the help of Google Docs and Caliber.

In this article I am going to use Google Docs because it is free for Gmail users, but if you don’t have an account and you have Microsoft Word or Hotmail account, you can see the article “Create your eBook using Word and Caliber”.

To open Google Docs we enter our Gmail account and in the upper right we select the icon with 9 squares to display more google services, in the lower part of the box that appears, we have an option to display more, and another for even more of Google.

Being in all Google products, we look for Home & Office and there we find Google Docs.

Once we are in Google Docs, we open a new document.

To create your eBook, we only need at least 2 text styles, these are:

 • Normal text and Heading
 • Normal

This type of text is as the name says, normal.

Heading

This is where the elaboration of our eBook gets interesting, because with the different Headings (or headings) we can create our index automatically. We start with Heading 1 for the title, Heading 2 for the subtitle, and so on.

With this we can start creating our eBook.

Google Docs

1. We select “Title 1” and we click on Heading 1 to create the first level in our index.

2. We continue repeating step 1 with all titles and subtitles.

Our eBook index would look something like this:

Heading 1 = Heading 1

Subtitle 1.1 = Heading 2

Subtitle 1.2 = Heading 2

Subtitle 1.3 = Heading 2 Heading

2 = Heading 1

Subtitle 2.1 = Heading 2

Subtitle 2.1.3 = Heading 3

With these 2 steps we can create our eBook, but we are going to see a little more to give it a little life and extra functions.

Being a ghostwriter is not frustrating… quite the opposite!

If you stop to reflect on what has been said, and, moreover, these are things that you can verify yourself, you could conclude that ghostwriting is a loser profession; maybe you write something that sells a lot, but you have no merit and no recognition.

Well! In reality it is not quite like that …

If you think carefully, most of the professions are done without putting a signature on every work done, but when we see the concrete results of our commitment, we are ready to exult, regardless of whether we are recognized the merits or not!

Someone could oppose my statement with the following:

“Yes, okay but it’s a bit different, in an employee workplace, for example, there is a boss who can complement you and enhance your work. You can also aspire to make a career, and to get a raise ”.

Yes, all true, but it is also true that the ghostwriter works for someone, the one who commissioned him to dcost to hire a ghostwritero the job; and if he cannot aspire to earn more, he can reasonably think of retaining his client, and in any case, it will be the latter who will be satisfied with his work, and maybe even a good word of mouth !

As you can see, being a ghostwriter is equivalent to doing a service, from which you receive a pay and you can have satisfaction every time we can see concrete results.

Why does the word ghostwriter make us think of a slave who writes on command?

Ghostwriters and Confusion

In my opinion it’s the prefix “ghost” … mmm … yes, yes …

The word ghost suggests a hidden image: it makes one think of someone being obscured, whose copyrights are “stolen” .

The ghostwriter, in fact, must renounce the authorship of the work , whatever it is: articles, books or the text for a public discourse.

As I told you above, however, the ghost offers a service, from which it receives a profit and, by virtue of this aspect, it must be considered a real entrepreneur.

The confusion very often derives from the fact that the ghostwriter is associated with the idea of author / artist ; it’s the kind of approach that many writers have with this figure that is wrong!

Who writes as an author obviously has the right , and in a certain sense, the duty , to enforce the copyright of his work? This is because his purpose is NOT to write on behalf of others, his “enterprise” is not based on this revenue mechanism, and the approach is closer to the artist.

The Ghostwriter has another kind of approach; his business is based on the offer of a service estimated at a certain price, on the basis of a careful evaluation of time-difficulty and quantity.

How are prices established in ghostwriting?

Here, in fact, let’s talk about prices…! Like any good business, even for ghostwriting it is necessary to establish prices according to the time and difficulty encountered during the processing path. We exclude raw materials, since writing does not involve production costs (everyone has a computer nowadays!).

So what?

Here comes the beauty, because determining the price is not easy, especially if there are no past references in the type of work that is requested.

An author can establish the price of his work (short story, article, novel or essay) also on the basis of the offers that are made to him. Certainly, he will need to estimate the time required to write his work, therefore, the research, or any interviews to obtain certain information, and only then will he be able to make an estimate from which to start.

Then he can decide to sell his work independently on the internet or send it to a publishing house, which will offer him a percentage of earnings on sales. The same thing goes for authors who have a contract with the publishing house, which in addition to a fixed fee, will pay the writer a percentage of the sales, and this makes a big difference with the ghostwriter.

Many ghostwriters find it hard to give up the earnings on the percentage, but in reality, if you give up signing the work you cannot ask for a percentage on the revenues, because you are no longer the author!

Therefore, it is CRUCIAL to evaluate the price very carefully before selling the content

We need to make a precise estimate of the workload, trying to understand how long it should take us to obtain a certain result. To get a more correct idea, I personally recommend evaluating the time to subtract from other jobs, with the possibility of earning; it is also healthy to get an idea of the daily earnings based on the time spent.

What are the average prices for ghostwriting?

I strongly advise against the useless waste of time spying on the web, looking for answers … Prices must be calibrated on their own writing experiences, since everyone has different timelines to write the same type of paper, and the results will always be different!

If you have already done a search, you will have seen for yourself that it is practically impossible to find the same prices on the various sites of agencies and freelancers. Everyone tends to evaluate their prices based on various factors.

Ghostwriters are not just freelancers , there are several ghostwriting agencies that have made ghostwriting their core business , and they can afford to take different commissions by having other writers work under them.

In this case the prices are established considering also the rates of the ghostwriters and the cost to hire a ghostwriter who work with VAT, or if the writers work under contract, the price of the contents will have to be calibrated, taking into account the tax wedge like any other company.

Having said that, it is obvious that prices vary mainly based on the contents. You have to be quite aware of the time it takes to write an article and understand well the difference between the topics and the specificities of each single work.

Calculate prices based on content difference and specific features

The jobs that are required of a ghostwriter are of various types. It goes without saying that the value of working on an entire book is very different from writing an article; however, each commission may vary according to the client’s needs and the difficulty of the topics. The price must therefore always be calculated case by case.

It is not possible to establish a fixed price for each category, unless it is decided to establish the processing methods in advance. However, this could preclude many commissions. Before going into the specifics of this possibility, let’s see some variables that can determine the price!

Variability of the Guda lines

The commissions do not differ only in the service that is requested, i.e., an article for a blog is different from a public discourse; what also differs is the way of working that is required.

You may be asked to write an article about a specific branch of a business in three different ways:

You are provided with important news and given an activity report. You will have to compose a paper that highlights this type of production, without providing you with any additional references.

You are provided with all the news related to the development of that business branch, books and reports; moreover, you are given precise guidelines on the drafting of the article: H 2, H 3, tables, general layout of the contents

You are asked to rework a draft and adapt its format to another type of medium (for example from a printed magazine to a blog)

They provide you with audio or video media from which you will need to make your article.

As you can see, they are all very different working methods, which require a specific evaluation of the price for each type. The calculation of the rates can only be done after evaluating the times for extracting the contents: searching for information, times due to unwinding or watching a video, or reading a draft.

Later it will be possible to estimate the times of writing and actual drafting of the article.

The same goes for any type of commission. Usually those who have well-defined guidelines and content ready to be extracted do less work than those who do the work from scratch.

Those who decide to take this type of commission, in addition to the significant increase in working hours, must also take into account the risk ; since, the probability of not satisfying the customer becomes higher starting from the blank sheet, compared to a ghost that writes a content taken from a draft or an audio.

The risk of the ghostwriter: getting the focus wrong

In the specific case of commissions, the risk is linked to the inability to satisfy the customer. And when it comes to a commission where the minimum guidelines are not provided, the risk of “messing up” becomes higher.

For example, you may be out of focus or not understanding the purpose of the article. In this regard, it is good that the client is extremely clear, and it is certainly your job to demand maximum clarity.

However, when guidelines are not specific, misunderstanding is always around the corner.

And the ghost must learn to put every pros and cons on paper in order to regulate its price well.

Length of the paper

It is obvious that the papers are not all the same length: you will be asked for books of 80 pages and books of 120, they may ask you to write a speech of 10 pages or an introduction of 6; a 500-word article or a 1500-word article.

The workload changes depending on the length, so you will need to be able to evaluate the price considering the required length as well.

I advise you to evaluate the length always considering the difficulty of the topic: an article on technical-scientific topics, 1500 words long, cannot be worth as much as a post on spring fashion, of the same length …

Summing up …

This is probably yet another article you read about ghostwriting pricing without finding a single figure. This is because, as I tried to clarify in the article, it is impossible to establish a single figure for each type of work, as it depends on a number of factors.

And then, each writer is different and can obtain results of different value: the prices of different writers are unlikely to align, just as the results are unlikely to align.

To set the price in a sensible and profitable way for both parties (ghost and customer) you need to know how to evaluate your writing and the related timing to obtain a high-value result.

Then, you will have to analyze the request and any guidelines, or if the necessary material is provided.

My advice is to start from the evaluation of a basic item, add the variants of the request and the variables that can raise the price or make it decrease.

After that you can start drawing up your quote.

You can also decide to organize your own personal price list, where you can estimate your basic prices, depending on the categories: book by folders, article by words, press release, dialogues or text.

Then you will go to modify the price based on the variables.

What else to add?

Try to make judgments wisely, you must always think of the other party, remember that if you raise the price without a valid reason, you will always be the loser!

You risk losing the commission and a customer. You also risk getting yourself a bad name.

And now? Get to work!

Do you know that Wikipedia means fast culture? It comes from Hawaiian, an apt name I would say.

Every day, it is estimated that, on average, about 80 million people visit Wikipedia , a number that is constantly growing thanks to the quality of the content and the importance attributed to this platform by search engines.

There is no doubt that a link from Wikipedia is a coveted thing for us in Marketing. But how difficult is it to get links from Wikipedia?

Is it worth investing time in getting Wikipedia Page Creation service ?

The dry answer is yes. I’ll talk about HOW TO DO IT in this article.

Why get backlinks from Wikipedia?

In the context of digital marketing, link building, or the set of techniques for obtaining links to your site from other sites, is one of the main activities of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) .

First of all, we must clarify that Wikipedia is a non-profit company and one of its main objectives is to remain independent and publish authoritative and quality content . For this reason, building backlinks artificially, without there being a strong justification for the presence of a link, undoubtedly goes against all its founding principles.

In fact, Wikipedia is familiar with the techniques of us who operate in web marketing and has tried several times to discourage us from submitting links, even releasing only no follow backlinks since 2007 .

However, a good marketer knows that today more than ever it is necessary to focus on the quality of content and on techniques of public influence that focus as much as possible on authenticity and the real value proposition.

This means that aiming to obtain a “legitimate” link from Wikipedia and therefore not in contradiction with its principles, is not only required but also healthy!

Why Wikipedia continues to be a coveted platform for backlink hunters?

Google gives Wikipedia a very high ranking, by virtue of the quality of its content. This means that a link from Wikipedia translates into a significant increase in the ranking of the site that receives it.

Wikipedia receives a lot of visitors , so it could result in a possible increase in visitors to our site.

Authority: being present on Wikipedia corresponds to prestige and therefore to an increase in authority in one’s niche.

Do you also aspire to be mentioned on Wikipedia?

In the first part of the post, I will reveal the strategies to get backlinks from Wikipedia and how to put them into practice, and How you can Create a redirect Page in Wikipedia?

Then in the final part I’ll explain two foolproof ways to build backlinks quickly.

Strategies for getting backlinks from Wikipedia

First let’s see the main strategies for inserting links on Wikipedia which will be explained step by step.

 • Direct Link to your Site
 • Dead Link
 • Missing quotes

There would be a fourth category, that of suggesting your company to create a wiki page, but you can only do it if your company is publicly traded, and if you’re reading this blog, it probably isn’t.

Premise

There are some considerations to make before attempting to suggest you link in Wikipedia.

Every modification / addition on Wikipedia is moderated, so you can’t just add a commercial link or a link to irrelevant or sparse content. Wikipedia editors are very careful about who wants to put SPAM links, so the possibility of failure is around the corner.

The golden rule is: publish and link quality content.

Strategy 1: direct links to the site

By direct links to the site, we mean adding a link from your site to an existing entry on Wikipedia. With the premise in mind, here are the steps to follow to PROPOSE you link.

How to add a link on Wikipedia

 • Register on Wikipedia, just go to the main page of the site and follow the procedure to create your account. screenshot on how to register to get links from Wikipedia
 • Look for the suitable article to insert your link, remember that you need to add a link to something relevant
 • When you have found the page to add your link to, click on Edit how to edit to get links from Wikipedia

Link or quote : now you have to choose whether to insert a link or a quote (source)quote or link to get link from Wikipedia

Highlight the word or phrase you want to attach your link to, then choose the manual option and enter your URL and click done screenshot add quote to get link from Wikipedia

Click Publish Changes

Wikipedia now asks you if it is a minor change or to be added to the watchlist. For example, a “minor change” refers to a correction such as changing a space or punctuation. Changing even just one word you have to click on the second option. Screenshot post changes how to get links from wikipedia.

Review changes and publish

Your link is now under review.

Double your chances : after creating your account, before suggesting your link, suggest other changes and show interest in Wikipedia, because when it comes time to add your link you will be even more unsuspected. Better still if you can wait a few days before posting your link from the day of registration and get yourself known to the editors.

Strategy 2: dead link

Dead links or dead links , if we make the term more colorful for our understanding, are those links that were once active and now I’m not anymore. A dead link is marked in red both within the article, if it is a link, and at the end in the citations.

dead link example how to get links from Wikipedia

So, the strategy is to report a new URL to replace the dead link, Wikipedia is always looking for enrichment.

How to change a dead link

Find here the list of pages containing dead links on Wikipedia

Look for the right article in which to find the dead link, this can take quite some time. It’s not easy to find a dead link that talks exactly about the content you want to put your link into

Once found you can click on Edit Source or Edit example of edit to change dead link Wikipedia

Here now find the dead link marked in red and click on it: Above
 • Select External link and enter your URL and click Done example edit dead link how to get links from Wikipedia
 • As before, you will be required to review the changes before making the final submission
 • This method is pretty quick, although finding an article relevant to your goals can take some time.

This dead link is the perfect excuse to help the Wiki community.

example citation needed how to get link from Wikipedia

Strategy 3: missing citations

Similarly, in Wikipedia there are also missing citations ( citation needed ) and these are specially marked.

How to suggest a missing quote

The procedure is similar to that for changing a dead link.

Find here the list of pages with missing citations on Wikipedia

Look for the right article in which to add a quote, this can take a long time, because it is not easy to find a missing quote of the topic you would like to talk about.

Once you have found and verified that there is a need for a citation needed you can click on Edit

Now find the message [citation needed] and click on Cite (in the top bar)

Click on Manual and then Website

Now a form opens to fill in with the information to suggest, such as the website, the title and the date of access, when you have completed it click on Done

Quote form how to get links from Wikipedia

As before, you will be required to review the changes before making the final submission

Tactics for finding link building opportunities in Wikipedia quickly

There are two effective ways to find dead links and missing citations in Wikipedia, one is the Weighable tool and the other is Google, find out how.

Method 1: Wikigrabber

The tool I use to research opportunities to add links in Wikipedia is called Wikigrabber. Wikigrabber is a quick and easy tool to find the most relevant articles that are right for you.

For example, let’s say you are looking for link building opportunities related to “SEO” because you have a well-curated article to index. Here’s what to do.

Go to Wikigrabber and enter the keywords “seo” and click search example search in wikigrabber to get links from wikipedia

Dig up the results and find links from Wikipedia. In this example we have already found an article that needs a quote and an article with a dead link links found on wikigrabber get links from wikipedia

Click on the results that seem interesting to you and start suggesting changes on Wikipedia

Method 2: Google

You can use Google to search for dead links , here’s how.

Search on Google for the following string:

site: wikipedia.org “your topic” in text: dead link use google to get links from wikipedia example

Obviously replace “your topic” with the contextual topic you are interested in. For example, I searched for site: wikipedia.org “cutlery” in text: dead link to find dead back links in Wikipedia pages that talk about cutlery, cutlery and found many opportunities.

Scroll and find the most suitable articles to insert your link

As above suggest the changes via your Wikipedia account and wait

You can use Google to search for opportunities for missing citations , here’s how.

Search on Google for the following string:

site: wikipedia.org “your topic” in text: citation needed

Obviously replace “your topic” with the contextual topic you are interested in. For example, as above I searched for: site: wikipedia.org “cutlery” in text: citation needed

Scroll and find the most suitable articles to insert your link

Suggest the changes via your Wikipedia account and wait

Here you now know how to get links from Wikipedia, but remember quality content is the most important thing to be accepted, so produce something amazing and also remember:

” Content marketing is no longer a numbers game. It’s a game of relevance ”~ Jason Miller

The post WHAT MAKES AN ILLUSTRATOR AN ILLUSTRATOR BUT NOT A CARTOONIST appeared first on Amazing Viral News.

]]>

Drawing is a passion for many and a job for a much smaller group of people. When are we ready to propose ourselves as designers at a comic book publishing house? Many novice designers, especially young people, confuse their ability to create an illustration starting from a pre-existing model, with the ability to make comics, not realizing that between an illustration and a comic there is really an abyss.

In 10 years as a Supervisor * I have received books from very young designers who are not well aware that even making a good illustration is not a small thing: drawings made at a table in a bar, manga-style pin-up copies, various and varied characters of the panorama of international comics that have nothing to do with the production of my publishing house and all just to “have my opinion”.

Situations like this would be better avoided, also because a judgment of this type can easily be given to you by your art and image teacher in your middle school, not necessarily an editor of a publishing house that publishes comics.

Illustration is not a Comic

Yes, because apart from the questionable quality of what comes with this type of book, the reality is that an illustration is not a comic , it could be, but in fact its function and its communicative intention is quite different. The illustration communicates the beauty of a moment or a situation to you, as an impressionist painting would do, while a cartoon tells . So, if you propose yourself, as a cartoonist you must know how to tell through images.

However, it is not enough to divide something into cartoons: if the images are static, devoid of that fluid that seems to make objects and people move within them, we are now in front of a painting and not a comic. Do you want another example?

The image, even without the balloon and therefore the text, makes it clear what is happening. Any teacher in a comic school will tell you. If you do not understand what is happening even without the balloon, it means that you have not hit the target.

In both cases described, and in many others, I would call it a “set of images” placed there without any logical order. But that’s not what you really want to say and do.

Let’s go back. What you have to do then is to be able to tell what happens in that given moment and, of what is not described by you, the eye of the reader should be able to reconstruct for itself. I am referring to what happens between one cartoon and another and that you must make sure that the reader understands equally.

https://voxillustration.com/category/gifs/

Comparison with the Cinema

Here it is interesting to make the aforementioned comparison with cinema . In the cinema a sequence is described in full. If an actor is smoking you have several seconds to insert a dialogue and it will certainly be inserted not while he is inhaling the tobacco from the cigarette, but when he has probably just thrown the smoke away. In comics there is no need to describe everything, indeed it would be rather boring, if not scripted with skill and for some particular reason. Even if you are not a smoker, as I am not, you have seen it done many times and you will know by unconscious the moment in which our character will be able to say those words reported in the balloon. If we really have to stick to this comparison with cinema, I would say that we work by frames. We cut, in those old films of yesteryear, what we need to make the viewer understand what is happening.

In short, it takes a great deal of effort and skill. It is true that we gradually improve, but we need to understand the mechanism behind it in order to really make comics.

It is also true that you have to find a good script in front of you in order to realize what I tell you. Faced with a script that leaks from all sides, succeeding in the intent to tell is practically impossible, so if you want to learn, learn from the good ones, both designers and screenwriters. On the internet you will find several scripts available and you can train there. Then, subject it to the external eye and see its reaction.

Then, it’s up to you. Do you like to tell stories or do you just like to illustrate? You don’t have to do comics if you can’t and it doesn’t put you at ease, but you can stay in the magical world of drawing anyway.

Drawing the Cover

There are several opportunities that you can take advantage of. The first that can be spent is certainly the one closest to comics, that is to propose yourself as “cover artists”. In the world of comics it is not certain that a cartoonist draws the cover . Or rather, not all cartoonists can be good cover artists. This is a mistake that I have seen made even in large publishing houses, that is to underestimate the importance of the cover and to have designers suitable only for comics do the cover too. It must necessarily have a different impact, indeed it must have that impact there such as to hit the potential passing reader and decide to buy the register; it must arouse a certain emotion and undoubtedly remain impressed in the memory, so that if it is not the first, the second will not be able to resist.

So how do you propose yourself as cover artists and / or illustrators to a comic book publishing house? Well, in the meantime, say it clearly in your portfolio what you propose for, making it clear that you are aware of what the publishing house really publishes and also personally I would not disdain an illustration of the leading character in the catalog to convince them of your skill.

As already mentioned, I received several books (some even beautiful) and was puzzled by the fact that there were only illustrations and no comics. It is important to first of all see what the publisher is looking for when scouting. And if you really want to propose the same, two lines to explain you must not be missing. At least you won’t give the impression that you don’t know the publisher and have paid attention to what it actually does (which is rather shocking, I tell you!).

Outside the world of comics, the highest demand for illustrators is undoubtedly in the world of children ‘s publishing , both if we are talking about children aged 0 to 3, where the drawings are necessary and the text is borne by the parents, and for the larger ones, where a “book without images” is still seen as “boring”. It is still a prosperous world, despite the paper and reading crisis, but giving away a book remains a nice gesture and still does not offend anyone. If your style suits the various age groups of the very young and young, you just have to try.

Finally, having to talk about things to learn, also becoming graphic designers could be a temporary economic solution waiting for important engagements. Even there, even if underpaid, there is no shortage of work. Good luck!

Wikipedia, or the safe haven of students, and the desperation of teachers, who find research done in the image similar to the online encyclopedia. But Wikipedia is also useful, fast and secure information that reaches even where there are no libraries, the completely free notional funnel. Wikipedia is now an institution, and what a life it would be without it. The portal turns 20 and its founder, Jimmy Wales, is justifiably proud of it.

The 50-year-old citizen of Huntsville, Alabama, promises that he will soon launch a site to trace the history of Wikipedia, from January 15, 2001 until today:

“It will be a way to remember how we tried to break down the walls of ignorance and create a great community. of defenders of knowledge », he explains.

The encyclopedia written in 289 languages. Probably the most used encyclopedia in the world is one of the best examples of a democratic and transnational web. Its voices are written in 289 languages, including the languages of African, Asian and Latin American minorities. The languages most spoken by Wikipedia, those that have more than a million articles each, may surprise you.

In the first place there is English (about 5,056,000 articles), and so far, no surprises. However, it is followed by Swedish, then German, Dutch and Cebuano, a language spoken in the Philippines. Then there is French, Russian and – here’s another unusual presence – waray-waray, the language spoken in northern Samar. In ninth place is Italian (2,247,000 pages), ahead of Spanish, Polish and Vietnamese. The pages written over the years have been 38,068,469, including 2,408.

Wikipedia life

The success of Wikipedia is undisputed and its merit as well. But who makes it possible? It would seem incredible, but they are people who work for free and who also have fun. That is, they enjoy the pleasure of collaborating on something collective and collectively useful – just to clarify the concept of “free”. In Europe, the Wikimedia Assembly, also known as Wikipedia in Europe, has existed for ten years and is responsible for editing and checking the pages written in our language.

Especially check. There are particular figures, the patrollers , who watch over the vandals, those rude people on the net who try to get into Wikipedia to smear it with hoaxes, pages full of swear words and other not very pleasant things. Furthermore, Wikipedia are self-financing, because the funds donated to the Wikimedia Foundation go directly to San Francisco.

They take care to ask for the necessary permissions when they publish a photo of a monument or a work of art, they discuss a lot among themselves and do not hesitate to define themselves as a well-structured community. To ensure maximum neutrality and reliability they have a Wikiquette , that is a virtual bar where they debate, and even a kind of newspaper, the Wikipedia.

I work as a patroller. Marco Chimello, for example, is an architect from Vicenza who works as a Wikimedia in his spare time.

He does it for fun, he says, because “Wiki helps you use your time for others too and that makes you feel good.” He not only writes about architecture, but also about science fiction, which is his passion.

Another point in favor of Wikipedia: it does not force you to always take your work home, but allows you to dedicate yourself to what you like best. Chimello is also a patroller and could tell some good ones. In 2004 he had found entire pages that told of how Napoleon had won at Waterloo.

Clearly a fantasy-story operation. However, there are also those who are thinner and change the date of birth of a character by two days; in this case, noticing the error is obviously more difficult. The work of the Wikipedia is really tiring. And don’t say Wikipedia is unreliable.

How to become a notable Wikipedian and create a page.

To become a part of Wikipedia

Francesco Bini is among the top ten contributors to the version and among the first in the world for the Wiki Commons – the images made available on the network; in short, it is an authority in the wiki world. He gave some useful advice for those wishing to try their hand at creating a Wikipedia page. Becoming a part of Wikipedia, in fact, is less difficult than it seems:

«The secret is to copy the form from a similar page that already exists, and adapt the contents to what we want to write. The code used may seem abstruse, but it was designed to be as simple as possible, ”says Bini

And he adds: “With the advice of more experienced users in less than an hour you can already publish something correctly: Wikipedia is a team effort, where the comparison with others is always aimed at improving”.

How to write a flawless Wikipedia page.

 • Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, so it’s best to avoid news that is too recent or uninteresting.
 • Work on topics that you are really passionate about. Have fun, you are granted.
 • Search for or create a “red link” from an existing article. It is an indicator of missing entries, so it is the starting point for making new pages.
 • Consult reliable sources before writing anything. Don’t write by heart. Any information given must be checked.
 • Always cite your sources.
 • Never copy. Point.
 • However, take a cue from the already existing Wikipedia pages, as regards form and code.
 • Be neutral, concise and grammatically correct.
 • Use paragraphs, perhaps interspersed with graphics and images – consult the Commons, there are 23 million.

Sign up for your own bulletin board. You will thus be able to receive messages from other users, collect and make suggestions.

At this point, the game is done. You just have to think about the next page to write.

What would I have liked to know before writing a book? Well, the truth is that there are many things that I would have liked to know before writing a book. Unfortunately, when I started out, when I was writing Blackwood: Skin and Bones – now in its third edition – there was very little information out there. There were a few long-standing manuals, a couple of American blogs, and little else.

Today there is already a lot of information. In this blog, for example, you can find articles about structures, characters and even how to write your novel with only 9 questions.

But I want to go a little further. I want to make a list of things you should know before writing a book. Useful and condensed information, nothing of 5000 words going around in a circle.

35 things you should know before writing a book

1. First and foremost: finish what you’ve started

The hours that I would have saved myself from knowing this … Or paying attention. Right now, there are about 5 half-drafts on my hard drive. Do you know the bad? That, although I know that I will never write them, they are still there, annoying.

If you are going to start writing something, plan the writing to the end. Finish the happy novel you have started. Because if you leave it halfway, every now and then it will come back and bother you.

Writers finish what they start. The rest are those who talk a lot and do very little.

2. The time is now

Which means that if you stop to review the previous scene or the last chapter you’ve written… Whoosh! You get lost and you screw it up. When you write, write. Forget reviewing, revising and everything that does not have to do with putting a new phrase on paper.

I know it is very difficult not to stop to reread… But believe me, if you lose your momentum and stop, it will cost you a lot to start again.

3. The first draft is a conquest

Imagine that they disembark you on the beach. The gangway of your boat goes down and you, along with hundreds of thousands of other soldiers – let’s go with keyboards like you – go down at full speed. Bullets rain down millions around you. Many of your companions fall to the ground shot, but you continue.

Your only mission is to conquer that happy beach. The only thing that separates you from death is a sticky, mine-filled piece of sand — hello, procrastination. You have to get over that, reach the tip of the beach: write your first draft.

You will have time, when you take the beachhead, to worry about the bunker and the battery of machine guns —aka proofreading and editing—.

4. Paint with your fingers

Do you remember how much fun you used to have when you painted with your fingers? Do you remember that you didn’t mind getting dirty? Well with your first draft you should do just that.

Take out that novel from within, vomit without regard on the blank page. Enjoy yourself, have a good time and don’t stop to think if this will be right, wrong or if it makes sense. Let go of it, as if you were Elsa.

You will think that you are writing a lot of garbage. And it may be true. But when the time comes to rewrite, you will see that there is more than one pearl out there.

5. The first draft is for experimentation

The first drafts should be born in laboratories. The beauty of a first draft is that you can have fun and get it all out there, experiment. Be daring, get out of your comfort zone.

When you check you can load everything that does not work, but take advantage and take out everything that you carry inside.

6. Writing is rewriting

According to Memoir Ghostwriters, Writing is putting the words on the page. Editing is turning those words into something meaningful. The first draft is the birth of your book, but now it has to grow. Editing and rewriting will be his adolescence and maturity, in that time he has to learn many things.

7. There is no rush

If you were a circus knife thrower, you would only have one chance. If you miss the shot, clap… Well, clap whoever is on target. But you understand me.

The great thing about writing a book is that you don’t have to worry about it. Even if you have a heavy editor who sets you up for impossible times, you have every opportunity in the world to improve your novel. Write, edit and rewrite as many times as you want.

Don’t be in a hurry.

8. Know when to finish

Contradicting the previous point, I will tell you that you have to know when to finish. If you leave the rice on the fire too long it will stick to you. You have to know when to stop.

Perfection is your worst enemy. As Gabriella Campbell said, done will always be better than perfect. You can’t get lost in a rewriting loop, if you do, you will never finish writing your book.

Write until your book is good. Do not look for perfection, because you are not perfect, nor do you know what a perfect book is … Because it does not exist.

9. Your team

You’re not alone. You are not a lonely Ronin without a clan. You have readers. You have fellow writers. The purpose of writing a book is for it to be read. Gather your dream team and give them the material to read.

Writers are the worst judges of our stories. You need someone else to see your work, someone who hasn’t spent hours in the trench. Your readers will give you good advice, they will know how to differentiate the good from the bad, the real from the unreal.

10. The carousel of hatred

Writers live on a roller coaster of emotions. About every 10,000 words we reach a peak or a valley. This week we love what we are writing and tomorrow, when we reach the bottom, we will hate it.

This spiral of hatred will kill you if you let it take over. You have to keep writing, even on those days when you think it’s all rubbish.

11. Mental health

No mentally healthy person writes.

Accept that you are part of a segment of the population that lives for weeks with imaginary people, in imaginary places. That is our magic.

12. Don’t abandon your child… And if you do, dismember him

Go back to point one. Don’t make me come looking for you. Finish what you are writing.

If you ever quit — because believe me, you will — don’t just quit. Use the good parts. Stick with worthwhile chapters, scenes, or characters and save them for other projects.

13. You can write very fast

I know this point can be quite tricky. But if you put your mind to it, you can write a book very quickly. I finished the first draft of Family Secrets myself in less than 3 months.

If you do it right, if you have a clear outline, an outline, time to focus, and you know which direction to take in each writing session, you can write 5,000 words per session. I know it’s complicated, but it can be done.

An 80,000-word novel, writing 5,000 a day, would take you about 16 days. I’m not telling you to do it, or that you can, or that you’re going to do it. It’s just so you know.

14. Write something

80,000 words is a lot. A reader who is faced with that will spend a lot of time with you. He will spend many hours reading you, so please say something important.

I have read novels in which the author rambles for the first 40 pages. From there, things don’t improve either, because it gets lost in an episodic narrative in which things happen without a real thread.

Every part of your novel has to be important. Not only the story, but also the narration and, above all, the characters. Write about something.

15. The shape of the letter

A page in a book should be more than just a wall of letters. It also doesn’t have to look like a poem. Remember that the shape of each page matters.

Don’t mess with long, endless paragraphs. But don’t abuse staccato and telegram-like phrases either. Constructions of the type “sentence, point, sentence, point” are boring. But the sequences of compound phrases also.

Find your balance, reading your book should also be a visual experience for your reader.

16. The numbers of your novel

If the novel were a recipe, it would be something like: 48% action, 48% dialogue, and the remaining 4% exposure and description.

You may or may not agree with this recipe. The problem is that I usually go overboard with the descriptions and what I get is to make the reading very slow. The reader does not like to dwell on the details of a molding, what he wants is to see the monster crawling down the hall.

If you are going to write a book, remember that a novel is better when it lives in the present, when action and dialogue go hand in hand to accompany the reader.

17. I just lied to you, sorry

Dialogue is action. Action is doing something and talking is something, right? In fact, dialogues work even better when the protagonists are doing something.

People talk while doing other things; while we drive, when we walk, when we shop. We are always talking and doing things. Your characters are not puppets, or static drawings. Use language and movement in dialogue. Make the dialogue serve to energize a scene, provide a background while you make everything move.

18. The subtlety of the details

Descriptions work best when they are subtle. I like descriptions and when I abuse them, I create a postcard instead of a scene. I turn something dynamic into something static. A novel cannot be static.

When you describe something, choose a detail – three at most – and that’s it. Give the reader a brushstroke, a little detail that puts him in the situation and move on.

19. The reader is your pawn

The reader wants to work. He doesn’t know, so this will be our secret, don’t tell him.

If you want to write a book that engages, don’t tell your readers everything. Don’t chew it all up. The reader wants to work, wants to imagine. You want to create the character in your mind. Don’t describe every freckle, every wrinkle on his face. Let him be the one to imagine what the characters and places are like.

If you write horror this will be especially important. Don’t give too much detail. Leave things in the shadows. Anything your reader can imagine will be 1000 times worse than the worst you can write.

20. Too many people

A novel can have too many characters. It is not that there is a specific number. It almost always has to do with your ability to control all these people.

Novels like Stephen King’s Apocalypse or A Song of Ice and Fire have hundreds of characters. But its authors know how to handle all these people. If you don’t have that much skill, maybe it would be better to cut out, remove characters.

Stick with a group that you can handle without a problem. You cannot let them do their ball, you have to have the reins and control them. If you are not able to give each of them a life of their own, they are not worth having. The characters need a soul.

21. Gender Matters … Until It Stops Mattering

A good novel is a good novel. And it doesn’t matter if it’s fantasy or science fiction. If you have a good idea, gender shouldn’t matter.

And it doesn’t matter that you’ve written 8 fantasy novels and are considered a fantasy writer. If you want to write a historical novel or a crime novel, do it. A good book is a good book.

22. The Swamp of Eternal Stench

Starting to write a book is very easy because it’s like BOOM! A brilliant idea appears, it dazzles you and you make a rundown and you can’t wait to write. You wear it and your blood boils because it is the best thing that has ever occurred to you.

Problems appear when you have 15 or 20 thousand words. More or less, on page 100. Here the terrain, which was flat and asphalted, becomes a succession of slopes and quicksand. If one of these catches you, bye.

The best way to combat this tedious second act is to dismember it. Think that they are several actors together, with a beginning and an end. Break down the overall action and work with smaller pieces. You can also challenge yourself to write X words per session or per scene.

The issue is getting out of that death trap before it catches you.

23. It’s a long journey

As I just told you, writing a book is a long and often tedious journey.

If you don’t want to drown or die of boredom, play with the times. Variations will be your oxygen bag. Play with the variations of scenery, character, scene … Give movement to the text to give your life and not fall asleep.

Don’t let your story turn into an ordinary middle-class guy. If at any time your book buys a house in an urbanization … Burn it to the ground.

24. Go through the maze

Compass, map, rundown, bareback … Each writer is a world. Each one writes at their own pace. Writing a book is something very personal and your novel will have needs that only you will be able to cover. No one will be able to tell you how to do it.

When you write you are alone. We each have our rhythm, our way of moving forward. When you are deep in that forest, listen only to your voice. Let your voice guide you through the process.

25. Writing a book is easy, writing one that can be published is another roll

I have a personal struggle with a novel. It has been written for more than five years. I love the story, I love the protagonist and the antagonist … I even know that it could make a good series of novels … But the sad reality is that it is not a novel that can be published.

Making a chair is easy. I could make one by gluing beer cans and chopsticks … The thing is, no one would want to sit on it … and I wouldn’t be surprised.

Writing a book that can be published requires you to put all the meat on the grill, leaving behind several corpses along the way. The first novel you write may not be good. The second, maybe neither. But as you write, you will gain strength, you will understand that on each page you must leave a little skin, a drop of blood. Write, read, write more, and when you’re done, rewrite everything.

26. We are legion

The Internet is 48% porn and 52% writers. You are not alone, so take advantage of the fact that you are surrounded by writers to feed on them, to let yourself be advised, to read them and to learn.

Create a community, but at the same time, stay away from them. It’s okay to receive feedback, but don’t be swayed. Don’t let them change your style, gender, or let them take an idea out of your head — no matter how much that person who advises you knows.

Listen to all the advice, participate in the conversation with the other writers, but always keep your opinion and your ideas above the others. Follow your instincts, because in the end, no one can know better than yourself what is best for you.

27. It all starts with a character

William Faulkner used to say: “Usually everything starts with the birth of a character. That character stands up and begins to walk. All I can do is jog after him, following him with paper and pencil, trying to write down everything he says and does.

If your character won’t start, ask him:

 • What is most important to him?
 • What does he want?
 • What are you afraid of?
 • What do you like to do?
 • What do you need?

As he answers these questions, you will see him begin to walk and pick up his pace.

28. Know your space

I’ve already told you that you don’t need to describe every door in detail. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have to know every trim in that house. Your job as a writer is to know perfectly the setting of your stories, that will give you enough authority to write real scenes.

The setting is like a character and you should treat it as such. Each place has a personality – a beach is not the same as a cemetery. Treat your scenarios as a character, give them life and details. Then save those details for yourself.

29. The time machine

When you’re going through the quicksand of act two, some of the scenes will be boring. Surely this is where you will be in danger of abandoning the project, new ideas will assail you and they will seem more interesting.

Allow yourself to jump forward in time and space. Leave that boring scene and write another scene that excites you. Then when you’ve recovered from that boredom, go back and write some more.

If you don’t work with an outline, doing this can be tricky.

30. I have written a book, now what?

It would not be bad if, before writing a book, you take into account what you plan to do with it. Do you know what publishing options you have? Do you know what options you have?

As a 4.0 writer you have to do a bit of field work. Nowadays you have it very easy, all the publishers in the world are at a search engine stroke. You don’t have to limit your options—or your home country or country of residence. Publish with foreign publishers if you think you will have better options.

Amazon and self-publishing in general are another great outlet for your texts. If your thing is to fly alone, nothing like self-publishing. You will be the owner and lord of your product and you can do with it whatever you want.

31. The Orchestra Man Strikes Again

Do you think that by having a publisher behind you can relax? Error!

Even with the best publishers, much of the promotion and marketing of your work will fall on your back. I understand that editorial marketing is not for you, that you are just a hard-working writer… But the sad reality is that, without visibility and without a strategy, you are sold.

Many publishers will publish you if, in addition to your manuscript, you show them a marketing plan.

32. The marketing of the miserable

Believe it or not, promoting a book can be done without spending a penny. It is true that a small investment in adds will go a long way, but when it comes down to it, you can create a marketing and promotion plan without spending any money.

From the outset you have many blogs with information on these issues, MOLPE or this blog itself, they have a lot of information on how to promote your book.

I know that in the comments you will tell me that you do not have time. But he who wants something, something costs him. Soak up as much information as possible, learn to sell yourself — not giving much per bag — and spend time on your book. At the end of the day, it is YOUR book and no one is going to treat it better than you.

I also started in all this without knowing anything. I was an unemployed anthropologist who closed a brewery in 2010… I wrote a book… and realized I needed to learn something more… I spent many months of my life understanding how marketing works and now I am here.

33. The largest bookstore in the world

Amazon is the largest bookstore in the world … And it lets you sell your books in it … Do you really need anything else? Millions of eyes pass through its shelves every day and you have the possibility of being on them.

Self-publishing has changed a lot in a very short time. Today you can print on demand — so you don’t have to eat boxes of unsold books. You hardly have to risk anything, as these services are almost free.

34. Become a good partner

Traditional publishers have been trying to get back on track for quite some time. Faced with the change in the publication’s scheme, they are adapting and that poses several problems for them.

What they look for in a writer, more than a name and a good story, is to find a good partner. Someone you can trust, a solvent guy who can sell X books on his own, without depending on marketing or promotion from publishers.

Understand this as an opportunity for you as a writer. If you are able to move around on social media, create a promotional strategy and get the chestnuts out of the fire, publishers will want to work with you.

We have an example of this in self-published authors who, when they reach certain sales numbers, are usually claimed by publishers.

35. They are just business

Nobody hates you. Nobody has anything against you. The universe does not conspire against you. Publishers are businesses. If a publisher does not publish your book, it can be for many reasons, including that it does not have a good commercial profile.

It’s very unromantic, I know. But this is how things work. Don’t hate publishers or publishers. Whether you’re publishing with a publisher or self-publishing, you’re getting into business. Never forget about this.

I could go on and on … And I’d almost hit 100 tips … But I think that’s fine now. However, I would like to know what it is that you would have liked to know before writing a book

Wikipedia is the most visited encyclopedia around the world. Its articles are being read, edited and written by everybody. There are no guidelines and restrictions for reading content on it, but for editing and writing articles on it, you will be required to check out Wikipedia’s policies first. It has set some strict policies, due to which it does not approve any content on it that is not according to its policies. However, these are the top 5 steps to create a Wikipedia page which you should follow.

Step 1: Go Through Wikipedia Policies

Before doing anything on Wikipedia, apart from reading, you have to keep all the policies of Wikipedia into your consideration. For doing so, you will first be required to go through each and every of its guidelines and policies. For creating a Wikipedia page you will only have to pick a topic and write content in such a manner that fits according to its policies. It is of great importance, as without doing so, your content will not get approved and your efforts will also get wasted.

Step 2: Create a Wikipedia Account

Before learning how to make a Wikipedia page, you will be required to create a Wikipedia account. For creating a Wikipedia account you have to go on the Wikipedia homepage. After doing so, you will be capable of seeing a “Create an account” option at the top of the homepage. By clicking on it, you have to fill in the required fields that will appear on your screen. After doing so, your account will be made and now you have to move forward to other steps.
